Summary

In a small cafe at a location so remote it stands in the middle of the middle of nowhere, John--a man in a hurry--is at a crossroads。 Intent only on refueling before moving along on his road trip, he finds sustenance of an entirely different kind。 In addition to the specials of the day, the cafe menu lists three questions all diners are encouraged to consider:

Why are you here?

Do you fear death?

Are you fulfilled?

With this food for thought and the guidance of three people he meets at the cafe, John embarks on a journey of self-discovery。 Along the way he discovers a new way to look at life, himself, and just how much you can learn from a green sea turtle。

A nice story that encourages you to ask questions about the meaning of life。

Nice book, I enjoyed reading it。 For me there weren’t any bond breaking new realizations, but it’s a nice read for when you just want to refocus your priorities or see, what just a nice talk can do for you :)

RANT INCOMING!!!First I wanna say: this might be good for people who just started a journey of questioning their life and our society。It's an easy read。That being said。。。I've read explicit fanfictions that were more life-changing and inspiring than that book。 This is for people who wanna post an insta story and seem sophisticated even though the message is the most basic thing I've ever read。 RANT INCOMING!!!First I wanna say: this might be good for people who just started a journey of questioning their life and our society。It's an easy read。That being said。。。I've read explicit fanfictions that were more life-changing and inspiring than that book。 This is for people who wanna post an insta story and seem sophisticated even though the message is the most basic thing I've ever read。 。。。more

One of those books that is trying to teach is to be happier by finding meaning。 I’m sure the young might find it profound, but at my age and w my very committed belief system, it didn’t add much to my long life。

I feel so bad giving this only one star but this book was just so so bad。 In literally every way。 Well, except the short chapters, I loved those。 。 。

The book was an interesting read, although much of what was discussed in it seemed a little cliché to me。 I liked the philosophical aspects of it, however I don't know that I would read it again。 The book was an interesting read, although much of what was discussed in it seemed a little cliché to me。 I liked the philosophical aspects of it, however I don't know that I would read it again。 。。。more

I understand how people might feel challenged by this book and the questions posed in it。 I even understand how certain individuals could feel truly inspired, which could then motivate them to change something in their lives。 I can only give this book one star however because the simplicity that is presented with which a person could change a life is a lie。 What is with the responsibilities that a person might have, including spouse and children? Does suddenly discovering that my life intention doesn’t include them and is no longer what seems “fun” mean that I have the right to skip out on my life and desert them? I think it’s a lie that what gives meaning in life is always fun。 And what bothers me most and is for me the biggest lie is how the author makes it seem like everyone just needs to listen to their inner voices and make a choice to change something。 The truth is is that not everyone has the capacity to just change what they’re doing。 People who are working two or three jobs to pay their bills and to keep their kids fed and dressed DO NOT have the capacity to ask these existential questions and act upon them。 The whole premise of the book fits wonderfully into the individualistic society in which we live。 If I find out what makes ME happy, then I’LL be a happier person。 That is not enough for me。 There are too many suffering people in the world to just think about myself。 。。。more

Some new ideas and some old ones, overall inspiring and easy to read。 About living now instead of living to retire。 How once you start doing what you want, luck happens and happiness and excitement are contagious。

Absolutely adore this book。 It helped me figure out some stuff, and still does。 Everytime I read it, I feel different after and have realised new things。 I've read it more than 5 times。 Most of my friends have too。 Gifted it to many other people。 Can definitely recommend! It's just reckless and stupid。 And this whole thing with the Café and the narrative was just not my thing。 To me the main character just came across as incredibly stupid because his thoughts were sooo incredibly slow and the side characters came across as part of a sect。 Who goes to a stranger in a café and tell them anecdotes how their life is so much better bc now they are just doing their thing and quit their job and come regularly to the café, where everything is oh so good!?
